The sika deer is a medium-sized species of deer native to East Asia, characterized by its reddish-brown summer coat with white spots and the elegant antlers of the males. Originally native to Japan, China and Korea, it has been successfully introduced to Europe, New Zealand and North America. Sika deer are crepuscular, feed on grasses, leaves and tree bark and adapt well to a variety of habitats. During the rutting season in autumn, the males emit distinctive calls to attract females. Despite their beauty, they can be considered an invasive species in some regions.
